Thanks to new ‘intelligent traffic’ technology developed by European researchers, we could be in for a more cooperative commute.

I was critical of TomTom’s turn-by-turn navigation app for iPhone when it launched last year, because it lacked some of TomTom’s best-regarded features, and cost a hefty $99. TomTom has worked to steadily upgrade the app, and put the icing on the cake with the just-released ($49.99 for US) version 1.3. This version includes real-time traffic detection and avoidance (for a $19.99 one-time fee), Google Local Search, automatic day/night screen brightness mode, music fade, and more.
